"Thou shalt not commit adultery", one of the Ten Commandments, is found at of the Tanach (or Old Testament). What constitutes adultery is not defined in this passage of the Bible, and has been the subject of debate within Judaism and Christianity. ==Christian views of adultery== Christian Churches view adultery as sexual relations in which at least one participant is married to someone else.〔Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2380〕 According to the Genesis narrative, marriage is a union established by God: Within the biblical definition of marriage, sexual relations are designed to result in children, to unify husband and wife, and in Judaism and some Christian traditions, to be a source of carnal enjoyment, although some traditions look down on any minimal physical pleasure evoked by intercourse as leading to concupiscence, or tendency toward or lowered ability to resist sin, in this case, sexual sin.〔Deuteronomy 24:5, Proverbs 5:15-19〕 Before the account of the Ten Commandments, there are biblical examples that adultery was understood to be a serious offense.〔Genesis 12: 19, 20:9, 26:10, 38:24, 39:9〕 According to Exodus, the law forbidding adultery was codified at Mount Sinai as one of the Ten Commandments written by the finger of God on stone tablets.〔Exodus 20:14, Deuteronomy 4:13〕 Details regarding the administration of this law and additional boundaries on sexual behavior followed.〔See, for example, Leviticus 18, Leviticus 20:10-21, Deuteronomy 22:13-30, Deuteronomy 23:17-18, Deuteronomy 27:20-23.〕 According to Deuteronomy, the commandment was reaffirmed as the leadership of Israel passed from Moses to Joshua.〔Deuteronomy 5:16〕 In the book of Proverbs, the temptation to adultery is described, and advice for avoiding it is offered. Proverbs likens a man entering an adulterous encounter "as an ox goes to the slaughter."〔Proverbs 7:22 (RSV)〕 Adultery may be the first specific activity referred to as a ‘highway to hell,’ 〔Proverbs 7:27〕 and temporal consequences are starkly stated. For example: Adultery is one of three sins (along with idolatry and murder) the Mishnah says must be resisted to the point of death.〔Sanhedrin 74a〕 The New Testament supports the sanctity of marriage and affirms the gravity of the commandment: Other New Testament passages describe the positive expectation of sexual relations within marriage,〔1 Corinthians 7:4-5〕 and the sinfulness of adultery and of sexual relations outside of marriage.〔1 Corinthians 6:9-11, 1 Thessalonians 4:3-7, Hebrews 13:4〕 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Thou shalt not commit adultery」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
